Originally Released in 2001 when we were called Jowonio Productions, this record came as a 3" CD called The Meat And Bread Variations. This album and its tracks have been retitled at the request of our friend Masami Akita (Merzbow). This edition of the album features 2 additional tracks recorded around the same time as the original album sessions, and beautiful cover art that we've had for years but for some reason never used.
Featuring Contributions from Merzbow, Big Block 454, Chris Robinson, & Amenti Suncrown
Review from Compulsion:
The follow-up to the acclaimed hands/birds EP. Variations features icy electronics and a dash of controlled noise with Japanese noisenik Merzbow, toy town electro beats, and a remarkable cover version of Current 93's Imperium II. Each track displays a different facet to this experimental outfit.
Forget the full on noise assault, the Merzbow collaboration here is restrained and atmospheric, several tracks adopt a warped electronica feel using locked grooves. Great work.
This excellent release sees a song like approach creeping into the shape of Beautifulnoise/skin's fractured excursions. 'Variations' sees him teaming up with Japanese noise god Merzbow for a true genre crushing collaboration, his old mucker Chris Robinson, and the wacked out boys from Big Block 454. They have also been drawn to doing their first cover version in the form of the mighty Current 93's 'Imperium II'. It has been said of them that beautifulnoise/skin are the first outfit to actually make noise listenable and who are we to disagree?
